Everlast PowerCore Freestanding Heavy Bag Review
Weight
This one weighs about 250 lbs. You can make even heavier by using more filling in the base or using sand instead of water.
The weight of a freestanding punching bag is a very fundamental part of the design of the bag and the bag itself. The heavier these become the more stable it gets. But you might not just want it to be too stable.
Using it for a couple of days will give you an idea about how much you want it to weigh.
Tri-Disc Foam Structure
There are three metal rings located at equal intervals. These metal rings add more stability to the bag and of course the weight. It also adds more strength to the bag and hence more durability.
Another service that the discs offer to the bag is the dispersion of impact. It equally distributes the force over the entirety of the bag, much like what boxing gloves do, and significantly increases the lifespan of the bag.
External Coating
The external outer layer on this punching bag is what Everlast’s calling NEVATEAR. It adds a lot to the durability and lifespan of the bag.
The NEVATEAR is actually a blend of black synthetic leather and vinyl. Vinyl is a well reputed and durable component for outer coating for a lot of products like the punching bags, boxing gloves and of course travelling bags.
Easily Assembled
The bag comes with a complete step by step guide on how to assemble the bag. It’ll take you just a while and little effort to get it done.
But I’ll have to admit, some non-millennials are having some issue with it.
Height and Adjustability
Yeas, the heights adjustable. That makes it really helpful if you’re not buying it just for yourself. Now, a lot of people of different heights can be using it since the height can be adjusted from 52 inches to 65 inches.
The process of adjusting it is also very easy. There’s this long tree like grove on the core of the bag i.e. the stem that’s fixed to the base, you’ll just have to slide it in the correct way to move it up and down. Yeah, there’s no screwing and unscrewing involved in any of this.
PowerCore
The core of the bag is claimed to have steel plates. These not only provide a few pounds of additional weight to the bag but also gives the bag some extra strength and stability.
This takes the need of forcing in too much weight in the base to make the system stable.
Power Transfer Ring
Right on top of the base, attached to the stem is a yellow ring. It has its very own unique fashion of giving the bag some stability.
No, it doesn’t add any more weight. But it closes the gap between the stem and the base. Just like those white tapes that plumber use while attaching taps or pipes. You see, even if the bag is very heavy, it keeps on wobbling at times. That’s because of the gap between the base and the stem which the power transfer ring nullifies.
It also provides a fine recoil. That’s something which is extremely helpful when you’re doing some speed or counter training. That’s especially due to the fact that the ring stops the base from sliding off or moving.
Base
The base is sufficiently large to prevent the bag from toppling over with a little hit. You might have noticed that it doesn’t have any holes or caps for you to put in water or sand……… what the hell !!! Yes, it’s much more convenient this way.
The base is like a big cylindrical container, you’ll have to fill it up when you’re assembling it. It gets about three lids on top of it, you’ll see when you’re assembling it. This set up pretty much guaranties that there’ll be absolutely no spillage.
Now, how much weight can this take in? It can hold up to 250 lbs of water, that’s a lot. But if you want it to be heavier you can use sand. Putting in sand inside the base will add about 370 lbs in weight. And even if that’s not enough, remove some sand and add rocks.
But NEVER USE ONLY ROCKS. That’ll completely destroy the base.
Air-Foam Chamber
The bag has foams right adjacent to the base of the bag. The segments of foam create a chamber of air in between.
This simulates a feeling that you’re hitting some real muscles.
Neck
At times, its seen that the freestanding punching bags break from the neck. But that won’t be the case with the Everlast PowerCore. Why? That’s because the neck’s made out of high-density plastic. This makes the neck a bit flexible and also sturdy.
Great Hitting Surface
The foam or the hitting surface has the perfect balance between hardiness and softness. This creates it very easy and comfortable to hit it. And of course, the rebound is just great. The power transfer ring also has some role in it.
And as it’s Everlast, they didn’t cheap out. They’ve used some high-end shock absorbing foam. That keeps the hitting surface firm and less painful.
Warranty
You’ll even be getting a warranty. The warranty lasts for three months. So, you won’t have to worried about getting a damaged good.
Price
I just had to bring up the price, man it’s cheap. Your average freestanding punching bags will cost you about a couple of hundreds of bucks. And those are quality might not even be on par with this one.
What’s Not So Great About It?

Definitely Not for Outside Use
You see, the synthetic leather and vinyl are both great as long as you take care of them. And the no. 1 rule for that is, you can never ever let water take a hit on it.
Water is the kryptonite for these sorts of materials. And once you take ‘em outside it’ll get in touch with snow or dew and it’ll start cracking.
Not for Pros
It’s good for you so long you’re a starter in martial arts. But as you get better and better and start full force training, you’ll find yourself troubling to be using this.
